Deluxe Debuts

25 August 2018

If you're debating going to the Brisbane Festival this year, here's an off-program clincher – a trio of ritzy new hotels dotted in a constellation around the main festival venue is waiting to receive you. And they all have views of the Brisbane River, scene of a nightly water, light and laser spectacular telling the traditional story of the serpent that brought it into being.

Hands down the most glamorous of the three, the Emporium Hotel South Bank on Grey Street is a curvy stunner in a low-slung skirt of silver that ripples and shimmers in the breeze.

The skirt, strictly speaking, is a kinetic screen – one of three in Sun Veil, a $4.35 million art installation by the San Francisco-based artist Ned Kahn that wrap the lower storeys of the towers in the Southpoint development.

The five-star Emporium Hotel is in the third and last tower to be completed, closest to the festival hub, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. But really, you can't miss it. Beneath that mesmerising silver skirt, a gigantic curvilinear E in red and silver hovers apparently without support over the entrance.

Southpoint Finalist at 2015 UDIA QLD Awards for Excellence

9 November 2015

Anthony John Group's $600m mixed used development Southpoint was last Friday announced a finalist in the Marketing Excellence category at the 2015 Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) QLD Awards for Excellence.

These high profile awards seek out the very best of the best; the people and projects that go beyond the built environment, to create wonderful communities. They celebrate Australia's contemporary knowledge, skills and innovation in the urban development industry and recognise outstanding achievements of high quality developments.

Drawing on Southpoint’s unique attributes, AJG established a highly effective target marketing strategy that delivered a compelling project position through a clever awareness and engagement campaign. This resulted in unprecedented sales success for the creators of the widely acclaimed Emporium Hotel.

Group CEO Shane Bulloch said the key to Southpoint’s success has substantially been driven by the market understanding the clear benefits a mixed-use development of this nature is set to deliver, as well as the absolute rarity of the location and environment it is set in.

“We have over achieved on project objectives due to the strength of market acceptance and understanding of the benefits Southpoint will deliver both owner occupiers and investors. This has been exemplified by the fact over 70% of purchasers in the first two stages are local.”

Innovative sales and communication tools, aimed at enhancing the customer experience, were introduced along with a robust database remarketing strategy that relied on segmentation and targeted messaging.

“Southpoint is such a unique and meaningful development to Brisbane; we wanted to ensure our approach to marketing and communication reflected this.”

Well done to the project team, we are exceptionally proud to have Southpoint recognised. Congratulations also to all the nominees and winners.

Southpoint Commercial Building receives 5 Star Green Star rating for Office Design (v3)

20 November 2015

The commercial tower in Anthony John Group’s $600m Southpoint development has been awarded a 5 Star Green Star rating for Office Design from the Green Building Council.

Set to be home to Flight Centre’s global headquarters and some 2,500 staff on completion in mid-2016, the commercial tower has been designed with a sustainable future in mind.

Buildings awarded a high Green Star rating in design are proven to outperform normal buildings in terms of comfort, tenant satisfaction and productivity of employees, lower energy and water consumption in turn leading to lower run costs, higher initial value of the building and higher return on investment.

The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) was established in 2002 to develop a sustainable property industry in Australia and drive the adoption of green building practices through market-based solutions.

Green Star rating tools help the property industry to reduce the environmental impact of buildings, improve occupant health and productivity and achieve real cost savings, while showcasing innovation in sustainable building practices.

The Green Star certificate will also guarantee a higher NABERS rating in all areas upon completion, including energy and water usage, indoor environment quality and waste management.

Luxury Defined - Courier Mail

5 August 2015

TRUE luxury apartments – the kind that command multi-million dollar price tags – are measured by more than the quality of their fittings.

Anthony John Group chief executive Shane Bulloch, developer of South Bank’s Southpoint and the luxury Emporium Residences, said while there were tangibles that defined luxury, such as good apartment design and high-quality finishes, there were intangible lifestyle improvements buyers also looked for.

“That’s a key point of difference for us, such as being able to have room service or, if you’ve been overseas, have the hotel air your apartment, make sure there’s milk in the fridge,”

Flight Centre slides into Annie Yang’s new Brisbane digs

25 June 2015

When workers are inducted into the new Flight Centre Brisbane head office, they might be surprised to find their new multi-million-dollar digs include slippery slides linking the executive levels, the shell of a plane and a double-decker bus as meeting rooms.

But leisure and travel retailer Flight Centre’s unusual working arrangements are not standard, eschewing the standard managerial structure for competing teams of “families”, “tribes” and “villages”.

The challenge was making this corporate character fit into an office floorplan for Flight Centre’s new global headquarters, and PDT Architects’ Annie Yang was more than happy to oblige.

The end result of the $25 million 15-storey fitout will be a grab-bag of mock hotel lobbies, planes, trains and automobiles and movable office spaces.

“It’s a bit unique, typical offices are not like that,” Ms Yang said.

“This was quite exciting. We’ve got a slide on the executive floors, the top six floors, we have slides connecting those floors. It’s not every day we get that type of brief from a client.”

Flight Centre’s new headquarters will be located within the commercial tower of Anthony John Group’s $590m Southpoint complex at Brisbane’s Southbank.

The travel company wanted to bring its diverse brands together under the one roof, and will vacate their current tenancies in Brisbane’s CBD to move their 2000 staff to the 23,000sq m new offices. The staff may not know what will hit them. Offices based around Flight Centre’s ethos of “family” teams of three to eight employees will work around the perimeter of the layout, with meeting rooms and other communal facilities such as the “firepit” clustered in the middle.

“Within each family they have their own war cries, and they have targets, it’s quite competitive,” Ms Yang said.

“Within the design of each work station we’ve allowed (staff) to personalise each area.” So across each of the levels there is a different focal point, tailored to the product each team is tasked with selling.

“Because it was 15 floors we decided to do things a bit differently,” Ms Yang said. “Every floor would be themed specifically to the items they actually sell.”

Hence, the bus, the plane and different mock hotel lobbies of varying star ratings as the meeting rooms for different levels who work with each product item.

Flight Centre has signed up to move into Southpoint from the middle of next year.

In doing so, they join Brisbane’s “flight to quality”, away from the central business district, deepening the city’s serious office vacancy problem.

They will move from GPT’s 545 Queen St and MRL Investments’ 316 Adelaide Street on the expiration of their leases.

Southpoint is one of the biggest mixed-use transit-orientated developments in Queensland, located in the busy hub of South Bank. Southpoint will also feature a hotel and restaurants as well as apartments.
